Hi my name is Robert Bridge hence the name of the blog, I have noticed a few simple mistakes being made on Word Press Plug-ins, I have also noticed new options on my Google Android phone that changes the look of a website but does give me the option to allow plug-ins, what this means for us as web developers and web designers I really do not know what I do know is reading a blog needs to be Mobile enabled, however as already mentioned some mobile plug-ins need updating, in-fact they really do suck as far as website design is concerned.

In this post I will also summarise this month and what has been happening in my life and here on Robert Bridge.mobi. The first thing to understand is that I am British, I was born in the British Isles and am currently targeting Britain with the information that I provide. This is not my only domain. I have three others, some of these domains I have split tested one website after another, its only recently I have discovered split testing is for simple sales pages and not a website per se. I am not saying blogs cannot be sales pages, because they can especially if you are an affiliate or building a membership website.

Does your website have a domain or sub-domain?

The key thing to understand is split testing a website is when you create two similar pages on either different URL’s (www.robert-bridge.mobi/a www.robert-bridge.mobi/b), perhaps on two different sub domains (that is the same domain name starting with www.NAMEOFSUBDOMAIN.robert-bridge.mobi ) or you just use two different domain names and create the two similar pages (a: www.robert-bridge.info b: www.robert-bridge.mobi).

Would your website benefit from paid advertising?

Either way the only viable method of really testing a website in this manner is by getting lots of traffic, the best way to do this is with advertising. Google advertisements cost money and require an account that you use in conjunction with your bank card. Now I have been a member of the Google Engage program since early October and have been handing out £50 CD’s to potential customers. The point of this being is they get £50 worth of free advertising, a manual to go with it. The truth is not many people have actually advertised a website  with Google because they are afraid of getting billed. The truth is if you know what you are promoting converts through split testing, you can really ramp it up to get back what you put in, chances are by the time you have gone through your £50 worth of Google advertising via the voucher you will be able to determine which page, correctly designed as well as correctly advertised will yield back more money than actually used in the advertising process that you can use with your website.

Other spin off for a website mean your page will rank a lot better in the search engine, not only because your testing will be so rigourous but also because it just will, especially if your bidding of keywords converts sticks and is accepted for what ever time you set it to be. Does this mean the plug-ins need updating, well I not really sure, some other things I need to consider are other plug-ins, perhaps they are clashing, another query could be about Google AdSense recently added inside my blog posts. The mobile apps before this were good, now only the Google ads show via the WordPress plug-ins. The names of two good mobile plug-ins are WPTouch and another one is based on the Pom Pilot enabled plugin or an old one called viewMobile. depending on what mobile phone you use you will be able to test your website and see if the website is working. This month I went to a meeting by some leaders in the mobile industry. The meeting was based in Covent Garden and the clients that this company had worked for ranged from locations in US, France, Dubai and Monaco, as you can imagine these mobile sites were pretty nifty, rest assured if I was advertising these type of mobile designed website s, advertising would be a cinch. Things like Hotels, mobile phone companies, online airlines booking, luxurious jewellery and brand names like Prada etc. The company is Web Spiders, they even gave me access to the Transport Museum worth about £13 it was really awesome and I got a couple of nice photo’s.

This month I have probably given away about 25 CD’s with £50 worth of Google Advertising, each customer I gave the CD to were already qualified. I qualify them as good customers who will more than likely take action with this £50 by the fact they already have a business model, they already are in a dream team, they are already making sales of products and services, or have already proved that people like whatever it is the website put forth on the world wide web. Not 100% sure how this will help me, however it was great to make people smile, since there is lets face it a lot of desperation in all quarters right now, perhaps I am seeing things through a different lens to you.

The things I see are pensions reducing, I see people getting laid of work, I see stocks and investments yeilding less % of profit for investors and brokers and this is making things more and more difficult so you need a good website.

You pay for a service not always are you guaranteed a profitable service, you pay for advice on a panel of underachievers who like playing with other peoples money, this is not good, however some website advice is very good.

Equally some case studies are good, when you here presentations from leaders with great products or mobile website s for instance and realise that even when you have the best technology designed by the leading outsources of the world at the cheapest price, nothing is guaranteed, this is why multi testing a website is always good. Some companies fail simply because they dictate how and what should be, when everybody should know by know listening is the best option. Concentrating on the basics for your website will help to do this.

Anyone with half a sense of purchasing power will tell you what they want and need, they will also tell you the problems of navigation, and will also kick up a fuss if you do not deliver what you promise on your own website.

Or finish writing that book, or in many cases successful books are based on current interpretations of older dustier books, maybe its a home video you and your drama team have made of a book you liked reading, perhaps it is a how to product, for example how to get a stand in part in Coronation Street, How to knot that perfect tie, How to be the best at Cross Country, how fishing lures differ from fishing weights, the lsit is endless, and chances are from this how-to list its easy to find out what is already there and what is not. They all have a pretty good website to so take a look and inspect the code, you might get some good ideas, right?

Remember the days of Traffic Swarm the browser where you could click and click, the boxes brown and boring but the traffic yield qualified targeted hits, if you do not like the idea of mastering advertisements and see through the search engine optimization fads this is something that will always be there, but remember traffic surfing is full of other desperate traffic surfers, after more hits.

Luckily there will always be two types of people, 5% of people are action takers, these are the same people who create great products and deliver great services. These same people will recognise a good deal, and always say yes to a decent product, that said they should not be classed a competition because they are already winning.

Winners like to make more winners, its true but any negative connotations or the littlest of faults in what you promise they will sniff you a mile of. be lucky and good luck. I can say I seen this principle in action this week at a seminar in London called the Shift Event.

At the Event a relatively newbie speaker sold a product to one of the other speakers, who were already really successful.

Knowing this has helped me with my confidence of networking with other successful marketers, but I would recommend you do your own due diligence to find out what goes where in relation to what you are developing and bringing to the website party.

In this article I will explain a little bit more about computers and why I think its very easy to be fabulous on computer when you know how it all works and what goes where to create what ever it is you want to create.

The first thing I needed to understand was how to use the basic tools on most computers. The first thing I needed to master was an e-mail so I could send and receive messages over the world wide web. Next I needed to seek out education so I could receive one to one help, and clear instructions on what went where, this included the various tools I enjoy using today not just to create but also to document and give my life more of structure, things like calendars or excel documents.

Luckily here in London there is plenty of places to get educated about computers.

If you are just starting out, a library here in London was a great place to start, because one you have access to computers and two they had some special classes there that got my education rolling. Since my curiosity about computers I have graduated in Media and Language, well my own language but still a degree for me is a degree, and if anything this made my family very proud of me.

My father died recently and he was great on computers, he was very proud of me getting a degree and we spent hours on Skype talking about computers which I miss very much, he was a great man and taught me a lot of stuff in the eighties when computers first came out. Since then computers have changed thanks to the introduction of the Internet.

If you want to succeed on computer always make it a point to decide wisely and here are some useful tips in establishing your computing mindset.

Knowing how the software works and mapping between the navigation on your computer will really help you work faster. In your job you will use some documents more-so than others, if you are looking for a job like me you might be looking for ways to improve the aesthetics of say things like CV’s or just generally keeping your computer neat and tidy by filing things and constantly going through files adding them to trash. By doing this trust me you too will feel fabulous about computers, its not easy though so get going.

When it comes to the Internet there are many things to consider and mastering all of them can be very helpful. For example which browser should I use for each task, which one is the fastest, what things should I be mindful of in the settings and updates of these browsers. Which search engine should I use, where is the best place to network safely so I can invite my friends and family. What music do I like and where can I find that music? What pictures draw my attention and more importantly which pictures do I think other people will like and make them smile or feel happier than they already are?

Computers have so many scientific variables another fundamental thing about the computer popularity congruent with the influx of science and technology we carry around with us everyday. Gadgets have gotten so small they fit in our pockets, which means we can go outside instead of stuck indoors on computer.

The problem with this is engagement, understanding this from what we know about technology outside and how people spend so much time looking at rich media like smart phones provide or the power of images, in relation to the indexical words read in traditional books is something that although seems fabulous always seems necessary. Take books, magazines, banners and advertisements these take our attention and leave an impression, well likewise so does computing and Internet usage.

The transference of thought through the extensions of the computer and the connections we bind from the influx of data can be quite confusing and at times debilating, this is just one thing I would note. Spending the time to fragment and delegate tasks as well as get up, move about and see people face to face is good, and I am also aware of the dissapointments. Many people thanks to computers have met nice people and gone out and done nice things, this has not been my experience but I do still feel fabulous about using a computer. Now I know it will not be the be all and end all of the future career becuase I am well aware of the risks, you think one thing then experience another, you spend enough time consuming the variables and develop a strong beleif that you can have faith in the right decsions, but being let down or not getting regular work rest and play is very silly.

Thoughts are like muscles, the ones you use the most will grow to become the strongest. Work on the thoughts you want to develop and focus on them regularly, since it has the tendency to become action, action become habits, and habits determine results. The muscles you use on computer outside of the brain and the senses used for the experience of in the tactility of the fingers, as you type or press the button on the camera and video player, these muscles get lots of exercises, especially if you partake, read a particpate, one thing I am blunty aware of is most people these days as I am sure may happen to be later on in life become passive audiences, the computer gives me the ability to create, so I create and do not see anything wrong with this, it has helped me, so I am 99% positive it will help you too.

The key is that the mind drives everything you do in your life and using your computer when computing is no exception. The mind experiences a lot of things and the media attention brings decisions that need to be made in the head active participation will cultivate a deeper understanding of any topic, airing views might not be the most counterproductive but does help in understanding and the great thing is an impression is left where poeple can go back and see what it is, how you progressed and how it all came to be.

You want the first impression that people have of you to be a good one, so make certain that your email and your instant messengers are professional and let people know that you are serious about your computer exploits.

Also advertising with Google rather than Facebook is becoming way more exclusive, the predictions these past few months have been that small businesses ie anyone with an advertising budget of less than perhaps $10,000 per month may have to find alternative methods.

Advertising effectively has or was based on obtaining likes to Facebook pages, as far as getting eyeballs to information and creating a list of people to can share info, intel and make happy through content has come at a cost, with a more user friendly method of communicating with Facebook users given they know which page to read, or the group they are in to guide them in the progression of business, marketing is becoming offline more popular. You see a marketing firm opening up in most business hubs of towns and cities, but the actual money and intel raised has to be the online buzz of marketing seminars, webinars, blogs, tweets, mobile pings and other manner of things.

In conclusion I will add a few links one of which is just a bit of personal fun that takes a few seconds to like and see the Flash effects therefore limiting the post to you computer readers rather than the mobile hand held readers. Finally in relation to the 90% SEO from two weeks back read on DMoz I would contest this and say blogging with WordPress or any other regular updated blog mechanism is much better and I know this is biased since I a blogger but much more fun, if you agree hit the like button somewhere.

That reminds me don’t forget to hit the like button on the post of the Facebook page you have already liked I am sure to owner of the business will really like that too, its just a shame that videos and images did not alt and load as quick as possible, but compared to the limitations of Classifieds with the limiting of HTML Facebook’s XTML is absolutely fine.

Both the Internet Net Surf Cafe members and newbies who visit the chat box to communicate have been very good.
