A mobile phone has many uses communication is just one of the them. Communication is the most popular but more recently the mobile phone has become an instrument of isolation as the new widgets create games, information through Micro communication is changing the way we interact. The first thing you notice about a mobile phone and its user is the dissonance and lack of concentration, but it is also an extension of many things and provides people with the freedom to choose many things, from sounds, to visual extensions and even provides people with a tracking device to help them navigate to find themselves getting around anywhere in the world. Being mobile means many things and the interdependence on electricity is something that may need to also be explored.
What does having and being a mobile mean?
Being mobile means being tactile, the ability to dial is not restricted to touch nor is the shape of the phone necessarily designed to fit in the hand, on the head or in the pocket. Phones come in many different shapes and sizes and there are many different contracts you can find yourself in. The option of pay as you go still exists and the price of bandwidth online has rapidly decreased, but the amount of 0845 numbers to compensate have grown to compensate to for the drop in the price of communication. This has meant an increase for the price of call in Doctors, Taxi’s, banks and other helpful services.
The house phone however is still necessary, people who have house phones can be contacted much more easily than someone with a mobile phone. Some would say the house phone is far more prestigious because the number can be included in the yellow pages, I would argue that many people who have house phones hardly ever use their house phones to make calls, unless of course they have integrated the bill with Voip operated devices like Skype, its much cheaper.
Why are you phoning friends on your mobile ?
You can phone friends in many different ways, if you are short of credit for example you could leave a missed call or just simply send a message saying call me back, this is very popular with people who still use pay as you go. Similarly many groups of friends choose the same provider for a mobile phone because it is often cheaper to call a phone from the same handle: Vodaphone to Vodaphone, Orange to Orange or O2 to O2. Its nice to phone a friend especially if you are stuck on a question, you can phone a friend and they can give you a suggestion, but there is never any guarantee’s that what they say will be correct. Many people say they will do things over the phone or turn up a certain time but never actually full-fill what they said over the phone. I am curious to whether this tpe of communication is diluting the message and slowly introducing passions for devices, which may lead to an interdependence of the homestead.
The benefits of calling on Voip on your mobile
In the home on the PC or Mac we have Voip mainly Skype skype seems to be the most popular but in certain areas of the country many people are still using dial up and get their bandwidth for the internet via the house phone, this is slow and the thing web-designers often over look is the time it takes to load a page. On Voip this can effect the signal and can cause a disconnection over the phone. Skype is great because they offer monthly subscriptions to pay for house calls to phones including mobile numbers (for people who have not got Internet). I love this because calling grandparents is much cheaper and my sister who does not yet have a computer I can call her house phone within the monthly contract. I can also phone university or make business appointments. I used to be able to call the doctor but that has now changed the 020 number has disappeared from the Internet, although I am sure it still exists it has simply been scrubbed from the web. The good thing is appointments can now be made online you just have to ask for an online account and at a certain time in the morning you can login and make an appointment, via the internet.
Shouting out the mobile window
Sometimes during the carnival I stick my head out the window and shout out to my friends as they pass by, some people shout out of their car windows on places like the motorway or the city centre where as other people shout out there window because they see it as a good outlet for their frustration. A good tip there is if you are shouting out your window to friends or passers by it good to have nice clean windows, you can clean them yourself or get someone else to come round and clean them for you. Some say this is like the icing on the cake.
Talking face to face on your mobile
Talking to people face to face is generally the best option, but when you become accustomed to the digital communication concentrating or disconnecting from from people with a mobile can be very difficult. The etiquette of communication is taking a dramatic transformation as the rise of mobile phones and telecommunications increase. Also talking face to face when you are out can be drowned out by other things like live music, the sound of the traffic or the wind and the sound of the waves, you can do this with your mobile phones. I am a big advocate of nature, but technology seems to be taking its toll, mobile phones are just one example.
In conclusion using a mobile phone for face to face messaging, texting, internet or gaming is on the rise, phoning friends is becoming a key commodity which means people can travel further have a second chance at getting the right grocery list through phoning friends and family. Shouting out the window is becoming a thing of the past and like Morse Code and smoke signals communication continues to find importance in humans interacting. The distance in which this communication no longer depends on who can shout the loudest but who can communicate with the mobile the most efficiently with the extensions available to man (plugins etc). Talking face to face on mobile phones is changing because of this and the need for more restaurants and places where media can be distributed and the use of Voip on a mobile is also increasing. The interdependence on Media has rapidly changed the way in which we communicate. We are moving because of this into a new age where the wise creates tribes and the introverts go into themselves with more confidence and become more creative. However creativity is changing as fantasy and reality distance themselves from human consciousness especially when you spend so much time on your mobile.
